Allergies A Bother? Here’s How To Improve Your Indoor Air Quality

Pollen in the area of Toronto can cause people to want to hide inside to avoid symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing, itchy eyes and sore throat. Unfortunately even with outdoor pollution, smog and allergies, indoor air quality can sometimes be worse and cause an increase in allergy and asthma symptoms. A few steps can help improve indoor air quality and keep your home more comfortable.

Filters in your HVAC system are designed to be changed every two to three months. During times of high pollen levels you may need to change them more often. This allows for proper air circulation in your home and also reduces the amount of particles in your air.

Air purification units also help circulate and clean your air using electronically charged collection plates or filters. HEPA filters do the best job at removing even the smallest particles of dust, dander, mold and pollen.

Run your vacuum and clean your floors every couple of days. Particles can settle on the floor and get shuffled up as traffic passes through, aggravating symptoms along the way. A number of vacuum cleaners have HEPA filters in them to minimize the amount of particles that can escape the cleaner.

High levels of humidity allow for more dense air to hold irritants in your home. Moisture levels should never exceed 60 percent in any part of your home as this can allow for mold growth to occur. A dehumidifier unit can help rectify a problem.
